What is a Value Stream Map?
The term ‘Value Stream Mapping’ is used to describe the process a product or service will go through before it’s ready to be delivered to consumers – and this process is often one that will be repeated time and time again.
A Value Stream Map will help you to define the scope of a product’s development and outline the flow of materials that are needed to develop this product and deliver it to customers, as well as identify where improvements can be made at various stages.
It can also be used to identify improvements in the development of various types of products. However, in the case of a non-physical product (such as a service), a Value Stream Map will instead depict the flow of information needed.

How to use our Value Stream Map template
Our template has everything you need to create an effective Value Stream Map in Ayoa – all you need to do is start adding information!
To access the template, sign up to Ayoa. Once you've signed up, navigate to the homepage to create a new whiteboard, mind map or task board and choose this template from the library.
In the first column, define the scope of the product’s development. Think about the problems your customers have that you want to try to solve, so you can define your objectives. Once you have clarified these, use sticky notes or checklists to add your objectives to your Value Stream Map, as well as start and end dates for the project.
Next up, it’s time to focus on the current state of the development process. Think about factors such as required information, who is involved in the project at each stage, and the current lead-time.
In the next column, think about future development. Looking at the notes you added in the previous column, try to identify how the process can be improved in future. Ask yourself; is your lead-time too long? Could it be shortened? Are there any steps in the process that could be improved? Is there anything that isn’t adding value for the customer?
In the last column, develop a plan to implement. Define what changes you are going to make to improve the process (such as making it more efficient or reducing waste) and outline how you are going to monitor your success.
